The Waitemata Local Board is one of the 21 local boards of the Auckland Council, which will replace Auckland's existing eight councils on 1 November 2010.

The Waitemata board, named after the Waitemata Harbour which forms its northern boundary, covers the Auckland central business district, and the suburbs of Arch Hill, Eden Terrace, Freemans Bay, Grafton, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, Mechanics Bay, Newmarket, Newton, Parnell, Ponsonby, Saint Marys Bay, Western Springs, and Westmere.[2] The total population residing in the Waitemata Local Board area, as of June 2009, was 70,000.[1]

The board will be governed by seven board members elected at-large. The first board members will be elected with the nationwide local elections on Saturday 9 October 2010.
